What if I told you to stop taking notes during the lecture, but afterwards? 😳
Now, that doesn't work for every discipline, but it works for some disciplines, especially when there are lots of theories in the course.
Listen to the damn lecture first, and take notes afterwards, because that forces you to practice to remember all that was said!
Now, let's go to reading!
- Don't highlight,
- Don't underline,
We all know that most times, you don't go back to what you highlighted or underlined, lol, isn't it? 😆
Instead, read a couple of paragraphs, close the book, and then, "think about what you've read".
Write down what you're thinking because that "instantiates" it into your memory and keep it at hand. ✋
Like, how does what you've read relates to other ideas you've known?
What's the significance to this idea?
Do I believe it?
How might I criticize it?
This is a way of attaching "memory hooks" to what you've read, and then, you'll get it. 🙂 When you understand what you've read, it becomes easier to remember super fast.
So I would say, seperate out the function of reading and note taking.
READ > THINK > WRITE
But, don't read out a sentence of the book and start writing out the sentence, that's not always helpful.
You can read the sentence, close the book, and then, REFORMULATE the sentence, so that it's now your sentence.
And then, you understand and remember it, that works very well!
Is this helpful?
Kindly let me know in the comment section below. 😊😊
And I heard that most lectures love it when you write what they taught you as you were taught. Then why would I need to reformulate??
How can one remember all what one has been taught if one did not take note when the lecturer is speaking?
